Care: Amla Hair Oil Khadi

I am so happy about my newly found love for Indian Hair Care, Khadi Products and their Amla Hair Oil. It is not a big secret that I am a little hair oil junkie, I am always trying new oils. Check out my hair oil guide here. Using hair oil has been one of the biggest discoveries for me after I started to look into (natural) hair care and care for my naturally extremely dry tresses. I does make the biggest difference in growing your hair! If you are a little lazy and thinking a few drops here and there will not make a difference don't let me come over with a bottle of coconut oil(!) - because actually there will be a huge difference on how healthy and shiny your hair is. 'nough said. 

I wrote a little bit about Amla here and how to wash your hair with dried alma powder while benefitting from lots of volume and shine. 

Amla Hair Oil:

Ingredients (INCI): Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower Oil) · Emblica Officinalis (Amla) · Eclipta Alba (Bringaraj) · Bacopa monniera (Brahmi) · Cyperus rotundus (Nagarmootha) · Symplocos racemosa (Lodhra) · Ocimum sanctum (Tulsi) · Azadirachta indica (Neem) · Sesamum indicum (Sesame) · Cinnamomum camphora (Camphor) · Lawsonia inermis (Henna) · Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Almond Oil) ·Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

As you can see the main carrier oil is sunflower oil and almond oil. Infused herbs are Amla, Bringaraj, Brahmi, Tulsi, Neem, Camphor and Henna as well as a little Vitamin E to keep it from getting bad too quickly. 

So basically you get the full power of indian herbal goodies all in one bottle! You need to shake the bottle well before usage and the colour is a purplish dark brown. I know that when it comes to Khadi products the opinions rage widely - you either love their scent or you hate it. I personally adore the fragrance! I was afraid that it would be a sickly sweet smell but nope - very yummy herbs. A little fresh and musky. The best thing is that I don't get an allergic reaction! I am very sensitive when it comes to scents. 

As you can see from the picture above, I have been using quite a bit of alma oil - basically as a prewash deep oil hair mask on my scalp and length for 30 min - 2 h before my hair wash. The picture below is purely for your amusement with one of my acrylic hair sticks and my prewash hair oil mask :o) Let is soak for a while. The effect it had on my scalp was very calming and my hair became very soft. When used on dry hair the oil got absorbed easily into my ends. I love this product and I wish I had ordered all their hair oils! I would categorise the oil as a medium to heavy oil. 

The most important thing : I have less hair loss now! I am not sure if it was due to a more healthy scalp or if the alma actually activated something at my roots but I am really glad I am loosing less hair now. The first two weeks nothing happened, but now I am in my 4th week and noticed significantly less hair fall out. Give it a try - the least benefit you will get is shiny hair :o) I was not too sure about it when I ordered so I am pleasantly surprised.

Care : How to Wash your Hair with Amla

Hallo ihr Lieben!

Heute war es soweit - mein Bad wurde zu einer kleinen Schlammpfütze, mein Köpfchen ist voller Kraeuterkruemmel und riecht nach  Wald und Blättern. Richtig die erste Alma Haarwäsche ist vollbracht! Ich bin total begeistert und hoffe das ihr es auch bald seid :D Erst einmal ein bisschen Hintergrundwissen. Was ist eigentlich Amla und warum sollte man es verwenden anstatt dem doch sehr bequemen Shampoo aus einer Plastikflasche das so toll nach Pfirsich riecht und die Haare silikon-geschmeidig hält?

* Today was the day! My bathroom looks like a little puddle of mud, my head is full of little herbal pieces and smells like a musky walk in the forrest. I washed my hair with amla - an indian herb. I am over the moon with the results and the whole process and hope you will be too in a while. Let's start with a little know how about amla and why you should consider using it instead of regular shampoo that comes conveniently in a plastic bottle and smells like peaches. *

Amla,

wird auch indische Stachelbeere genannt und sieht so aus. Sie wirkt antiviral und antimikrobiotisch. Besonders gut wenn man empfindliche Kopfhaut hat und zu Entzündungen neigt. Getrocknet und zu einer Paste verarbeitet ist es sehr gut zur Haarwäsche geeignet und pflegt die Haare ebenfalls. Es verhindert Haarausfall und auch Ergrauen. Deswegen Vorsicht bei blonden Haaren. Es ist super für dunkle, braune oder rote Haare geeignet da es die Farbintensität erhöht. Es sorgt für Glanz und stärkt ebenso Haarwurzeln und Haarschaft.

*Amla is also called indian gooseberry. It has antiviral and antimicrobial effects, prevents infections of the scalp, strengthens roots and prevents hair loss. It enhances colour, so be careful with blonde hair. It is a natural hair cleanser when mixed to a paste. It gives the hair shine and strength. *

Haare mit Amla waschen:

Erst einmal vorweg - natürlich dauert die Wäsche etwas, man muss die Paste vorbereiten und sich ein wenig Zeit dafür nehmen. Je häufiger man wäscht umso anstrengender kann es also werden. Ich wasche nur einmal die Woche und mir macht Haarpflege richtig viel Spass, man kann es in ein kleines Beauty Ritual einbauen und neben dem Gesichtspeeling, eine Maske machen, sich Füßchen und Fingernägel lackieren, vorher eine Haaroelkur mit Kokosnussoel machen und dann währen dessen das Amla Pulver mischen.

*Just so that you know, of course it takes a little longer to wash your hair with Amla than your regular Shampoo, you need to prepare the mix and rinse well. The more often you wash the more difficult it can be. I only wash once a week at the moment and I enjoy hair care a lot. You can start your own beauty day do a facial peeling and deep moisturising , paint toes and fingernails and do a coconut-oil hair mask while you are mixing the alma powder. *

• Ca. 3 Essl. Amlapulver mit 200 ml kochendem Wasser in einer hitzebeständigen Schüssel mixen.
• Min. 2 h oder besser über Nacht (hab ich so gemacht) stehen lassen damit alles gut quellen kann. 
• Die Haare nass machen und dann die Paste in Kopfhaut und Längen einmassieren. Ich habe einfach die Schüssel mitgenommen aber das nächste Mal fülle ich alles in eine leere Shampooflasche. 
• Nicht wundern - es ist etwas körnig und merkwürdig. Einfach weiter massieren und so tun als würde man Shampoo verwenden. 
• Haare fuer 3-5 min mit einer wasserfesten Haarstab hochbinden und einwirken lassen.
• Mit viel warmen klarem Wasser ausspülen. 
• Das war es schon - an der Luft trocknen lassen und ab und an kämmen ! Die Haare fühlen sich sehr voluminös und erst ganz hart an wenn sie nass sind - beim trocknen werden sie weich und glänzend. 

Ergebnis

Weiche extrem volumige dicke Haare. Farbe ist etwas kräftiger als vorher, bei mir also kupfriger (denkt daran das ich vor kurzem getönt habe). Haare und Kopfhaut sind gepflegt und die Kopfhaut spannt nicht. Ausserdem sind sie total sauber geworden! Ich hatte Tag-7 Haare - also sie waren wirklich ölig und ich hatte schon ein bisschen Khadi Rosenöl hinein gegeben. Meine Größte Angst das sie nicht sauber werden hat sich nicht bestätigt :) - aber seht selbst. Die Trocknungszeit hat sich allerdings verlängert und man muss vorsichtig beim Kämmen sein weil man keine Glattmacher mehr im Haar hat. Ich habe nach der Wäsche noch ca. 1 Teel. Amlaöl in die Längen gegeben weil es wirklich zu viel Volumen war. Alma Pulver riecht übrigens total gut - nach Blaettern und Bäumen!

*Results were very strong thick tresses. The colour is a little stronger than before, but keep in mind that I toned my hair recently. Hair and scalp are feeling happy and hydrated. And my biggest concern : will they ever get clean?? Was not fulfilled, my hair is squeaky clean and I had day-7 oily hair with a little of Khadi Rose Oil in as well. The time my hair took to dry was a little longer than usually and you need to be extra careful during combing! No artificial smoothing help left in your hair. The smell is really nice - it is a woodsy natural smell just like forrest trees and very pleasant. My ends were a little to volumized for my taste so I put about a teaspoon of alma oil in as well.*

Habt ihr Erfahrungen mit indischen Kraeuterhaarwaeschen? Das nächste Mal versuche ich es mit Shishakai und etwas Almaöl im Haarwasch-Mix um den etwas trocknen Längen entgegen zu wirken.
