LOC - The Leave-In + Oil + Cream Method

Hello Lovelies!

Today's post is great for all my curly girls out there! Yes say good-bye to frizzy and coarse dry hair that does what it wants and does not listen to you. Do you know my favourite quote...?

'' When your hair won't listen to you and it's a mess and ur just like:
I grew you myself??
I gave you life and this is how you
repay me?? ''
source: un-known genius girl.

I feel you girl. :D So this method is originally invented by my beautiful black afro american haired gals with super curly and coarse hair. And it works like a charm for everyone who's hair is is a similar state of dryness and frizziness. I am not sure who came up first with it, but the girls form naturally curly website have been raving a lot about it. This will work for thick, curly, wavy and dry hair. If your hair is super smooth, straight and silky it may weight your hair down, but why nevertheless give it a try. Just use minimal amounts and you should be fine. You always start with freshly washed wet hair.

The basics of LOC-Method are :

  1. Leave in. Use a leave in you love. It is important that is mostly water based. I use Aloe Vera Gel (100% organic I switched it now to Urtekrams, which a great Aloe Gel!) You ca also use a rose-water leave in, line seed gel or even very watered down conditioner (like one drop conditioner and a glass of water). I start at my chin and go down all the length.
  2. Oil. It is simple, oil and long hair go together hand in hand, they are the best couple on the planet. My favourite at the moment is almond oil, But there are tons of great oils, just find the one that makes you most happy, have a look at my top 5 hair oils. I apply 5 drops of almond oil starting and my ends and work it up about 25 cm.
  3. Cream. Use a good organic body butter. I have a wonderful one from Bioturm with a Vanilla Scent. It works great on your bumpy legs and dry spots as a real body butter but is also amazing for your hair. There are a few different organic options, even DM has two, one with Avocado and one with Vanilla too. Just stay away from Body Butters containing silicones. make sure your body butter contains generous amounts of shea butter or cache butter. You don't want that on your body and hair - it is like a plastic coat. I just ran out of my original hair butter, I have the DIY recipe here for you. I need to order some shea butter to make a new batch.

Results:
Moistutzed soft hair, defined waves. I usually brush my curls out,
but they were much more defined.

Why LOC? Does it matter in which order I apply?

Well yes it does. Applying a liquid moisturiser first and then applying an oil and cream will help you seal moisture in. You will notice that drying your hair will take much longer when you use the LOC method. But the results are worth it, your hair is much softer and finally moisturised.
If you do it the first time I recommend you to use a light hand when dosing your products, start with much less than you normally would. Otherwise it might be too much and you will end up with limp, oily and sticky hair. All happened before -.-
Let me know how this worked for you, lots of happy hair days to you,

Empties : December

Empties December - still on the quest of perfect natural foundation

Hello Lovelies,

1.Balea Professional Brown Shampoo 1-2 Euro, 200 ml
A good solid shampoo that lathers up very well and smells heavenly like caramel. It is enriched with brown pigments and gives your hair an insanely shine boost! It was gentle on my scalp and did not cause dandruff or irritation. It cleans so thoroughly that I only needed to wash my hair every 5-6 days instead of 3 days. It contains no silicones but some peg derivates that smooth your hair and might dry out your hair if used for a long time. I like to switch it up every now and then.
Repurchase? At the moment no but in a while sure!

2.Alverde Glanz Spuelung 2-3 Euro 200 ml
The Alverde Shine Conditioner is a staple in my hair care as well as in many other natural beauty bloggers, Bobby uses it forever now and especially to shave her legs! It smells very nice and sweet like oranges and banana and gives my hair a nice shine. It is not too good in detangling but that is normal for a silicone free conditioner.
Repurchase? Yes.

3.Isana Med Urea 5% 2 Euro 250 ml
This is a new shower gel that I tried out. I recently got psoriasis after a very very stressful exam period. Happily my elbow patches are gone now and that is due to the Isana Urea Series. I am using their body lotion with 10% Urea as well and also their face cream duo. It you have cracked dry itchy atopic skin I can highly recommend this brand. If you live in a corner of the world where Isana med is not available you can buy the Eucerin product series - Isana is just a low budget version of these. I have used Eucerin in the past and the priciest are very good - available at most pharmacies and well a little pricier of course. By the way a similar series does exist at DM - but I have to say their products are not rich enough for my dry skin.
Repurchase? Yes

4. Alverde Cream to Powder Make Up in 01 3-4 Euro
This version got discontinued! It was my favourite foundation because it was rich enough for my skin and light enough for my skin tone! I am a NC05 measured by MAC and this means most foundations don't work for me because of the colour. My alternative is just at the left corner :
Repurchase? Discontinued :(

5. Alverde Mineral illuminating Foundation Stick in 01 Naturelle
This foundation stick is my new substitute. It covers up nicely, is very creamy and oily which is great for my skin. The coverage is really good and I get a wear of 6 hours with it. The only downside is the funky fragrance they used - really weird and sweet. At first I thought my product might have gone bad! The second downside is the colour it does not match my skin tone and is a little too dark for me sadly. Also I have to say that I used it up pretty quickly I think it did not last more than 3 weeks which is a bit quick in my opinion!
Repurchase? Yes If I don't find a lighter coloured product.

Since I am still on the quest of a good foundation for very fair and dry skin I would be very happy to hear your recommendations!

Toxic Thursday : Parabenes & Health Risks

Hello Lovelies!

Parabens have long been in the discussion of toxicity and being carcinogen.  A good topic for toxic thursday! A few beauty companies have picked up on that and are actually marketing their products as paraben-free. All natural and organic companies are not allowed to use parabens and their derivates. But first of all,

What are parabenes and why are they used?

Parabens are parahydroxybenzoates or esters of parahydroxybenzoic acid and a widely used preservative in cosmetics. They do prevent bacterial, microorganism and fungi growth very effectively in cosmetics and food and are very cost efficient and cheap.

However, there are some controversial aspects.

  • Parabens mimicry estrogene, a female hormone and have thus been in the discussion of enhancing breat cancer. There is no direct link but amounts of parabens have been found in breast cancer biopsies.
  • Estrogene-like molecules have also been linked to an early start of puberty in teenage girls .
  • Allergic reactions. Just like many cosmetic agents parabens have also been linked to allergic reactions. Cases of contact dermatitis and Rosacea have been reported.
  • Sun damage. Contact with UV light might damage DNA and cause cell ageing.

Good to know!
  • Propyl and butylparaben is banned in Denmark in children's products.
  • Do not use parabens if you are pregnant, in your sunscreen or on any products for your kids.
  • There are alternatives! Products can be made safe with botanical alcoholic extracts most commonly found in organic cosmetics.

Safe Companies, Paraben-free:
  • Yves Rocher! Most of their product lines are free of parabens as well as silicone free. Please check the Incis nevertheless. I am currently testing their hair care line, so stay tuned for products reviews the upcoming weeks :) And I do like their products a lot so far. Their deodorants are also aluminium free.

What do you think about parabens? I am not completely parabene free now but slowly switching my products because I do think that I don't want parabens near my lymphatic system (thus parable free deo!) Do you know more companies that are paraben free? Leave some Info in the comments!

Toxic Thursday: Vegucated and educated?

I know a lot of you have watched food-inc as well and were shocked afterwards. I have recently watched the Vegucated documentary and it absolutely changed my whole point of view. I think it is so sad that we don't know what is really happening with our food and the animals we love. Even organic food is no exception here. This was something that I learned from this documentary. I can relate very easily to the 5 New-Yorker that are trying to live vegan for a couple of weeks and thoroughly investigate a little about what the industry is hiding from us and what we consciously do not want to see.

Is it normal that meat is more expensive than a vegetable? Do I want to eat a chicken that has it's beak hacked of, has no space to move or see the day-light and is full of antibiotics? A few of you may know, during medical school we have to work with corpses and because I have been for a long time in the O.R. and surgery department I stopped eating meat a while ago. Now the more I learn about it the harder is gets to think neutral about meat any more. I am vegetarian and not vegan but I totally get the point of people who are doing it all the way. I do love organic hair & body care and I think we all should try to see a little more than we know now. We get poised day by day and we are not even aware of it. Let's try to change our little world step by step :)

How do you think about the meat topic? Are you vegan and is it difficult to maintain this lifestyle in your daily life?

Love, Zoey-Louisa.

Review : Jason Body Enhancing Conditioner

Incis: Aqua (Purified Water), Camellia Sinesis Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Extract*, Calendula Officinalis (Marigold) Flower Extract*, Emulsifying Wax, Equisetum Arvense (Horsetail) Leaf Extract*, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Gel*, Planthenol-3™ (DL-Panthenol, Ethyl Panthenol and Panthenyl Hydroxypropyl, Steardimonium Chloride), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Stearalkonium Chloride, Natural Tocopherol (Vit. E), Stearyl Alcohol, Retinyl Palmitate (Vit. A), Ascorbic Acid (Vit. C), Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract*, Linoleic & Linolenic Acid (Vit. F), Oxybenzone, Triticum Vulgare (Hydrolyzed Wheat) Protein, Glyceryl Stearate, Cyclopentasiloxane (and) Dimethicone, Benzyl Alcohol, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Fragrance Oil Blend. *Certified Organic

Kosten: 5 CAD, d.h. ca. 4 Euro fuer 473 ml, Bezugsquelle: Health Food Store

Fazit :

Hello Lovelies!

Winter is here and my hair really needs a rich conditioner to prevent breakage and split ends as well as protection from the cold. I used up what I had left as cheaper drug store conditioners from Balea and saw my hair getting dryer and dryer! I returned to natural cosmetic and am very happy with my newest find the Jason Body Enhancing Conditioner.
I am still doing Argan Oil Hair Masks before every hair wash and am putting oil on my ends every morning and evening to prevent splitting.
The Jason Condi has a very lovely flowery scent.

The consistence is thick, waxy and very rich. Application is fairly easy and a little goes a long way. The detangling effect is intermediate I would say. Green tea and chamomile extract as well as Aloe Vera and Jojobaoil are the main ingredients. A tiny amount of Dimethicone is included as well.

My hair is really heavy and moisturised with this great product! I have a lot of shine and normally that's not too easy for me because I have curly hair. It helps defining curls as well.

Price : 5 CAD for 16 FL OZ and I got it from a local Health Food Store.

Incis: Aqua (Purified Water), Camellia Sinesis Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Extract*, Calendula Officinalis (Marigold) Flower Extract*, Emulsifying Wax, Equisetum Arvense (Horsetail) Leaf Extract*, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Gel*, Planthenol-3™ (DL-Panthenol, Ethyl Panthenol and Panthenyl Hydroxypropyl, Steardimonium Chloride), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Stearalkonium Chloride, Natural Tocopherol (Vit. E), Stearyl Alcohol, Retinyl Palmitate (Vit. A), Ascorbic Acid (Vit. C), Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract*, Linoleic & Linolenic Acid (Vit. F), Oxybenzone, Triticum Vulgare (Hydrolyzed Wheat) Protein, Glyceryl Stearate, Cyclopentasiloxane (and) Dimethicone, Benzyl Alcohol, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Fragrance Oil Blend. *Certified Organic

8 out of 10

Simply because he contains dimethicone and I think a brand that claims to be pure, natural and organic is a little off with the incis. Nevertheless a great conditioner and recommendation for dry hair
during winter.

Love, Zoey :)

Review: Let's get pretty with lavera - organic decorative cosmetic

Hallo ihr Lieben!

Getestet:

Lavera My Age Eye cream

Ingredients CTFA/INCI: Water (Aqua), Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil*, Alcohol*, Glycerin, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Hydrogenated Palm Glycerides, Squalane, Pongamia Glabra Seed Oil, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Sodium Lactate, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract***, Caffeine*, Ceramide 3, Ascophyllum Nodosum Extract, Bambusa Arundinacea Stem Extract*, Brassica Campestris (Rapeseed) Sterols, Arctostaphylos Uva Ursi Leaf Extract, Maltodextrin, Silica, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Lecithin, Lysolecithin, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Dipalmitoyl Hydroxyproline, Xanthan Gum, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Fragrance (Parfum)**, Limonene**, Linalool**, Benzyl Salicylate**, Citronellol**, Geraniol**, Citral**
* ingredients from certified organic agriculture
** from natural essential oils
*** from fair trade

Trend Sensitiv double black Mascara

Ingredients CTFA/INCI: Water (Aqua), Alcohol*, Stearic Acid, Beeswax (Cera Alba)*, Pullulan, Hydrolyzed Jojoba Esters, Algin, Sorbitol, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil*, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract*, Silk (Serica), Shellac, Jojoba Esters , Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract*, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Tocopherol, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil*, Camelina Sativa Seed Oil, Vegetable Oil (Olus Oil), Trehalose, Acacia Senegal Gum, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Tilia Cordata Flower Extract*, Rosa Centifolia Flower Extract*, Malva Sylvestris (Mallow) Flower Extract*, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Fragrance (Parfum)**, Citronellol**, Geraniol**, Limonene**, Linalool**, Citral**, [+/- Iron Oxide (CI 77499), Ultramarines (CI 77007)] * ingredients from certified organic agriculture

Ingredients CTFA/INCI:Hydrogenated Jojoba Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil , Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Canola Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Glyceryl Caprylate, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Ascorbyl Palmitate, [+/- Mica (CI 77019), Iron Oxide (CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxide (CI 77491), Iron Oxide (CI 77492), Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163)]

Trend Sensitiv Beautiful Eyeshadow

lavera natural cosmetic - double black mascara, soft eyeliner brown, mono eyeshadow rose

Hello Lovelies!

I am excited to share new lavera products with you for a dazzling eye make-up! I am not a beauty expert but I loved how these products worked out and that they are all organic and full of great ingredients.

My favourite is the soft eyeliner in golden brown - it is creamy, super soft, long lasting and stays for hours! I wish they would offer more shades grey, black and brown are available for now.
My other favourite was the eye cream my age. I have been looking for a good eye cream for sensitive skin for ages and I am so happy that this one works so well. It is not oily and will moisturise your skin without ruining your eye make-up.
The mascara double black has two sides one for volume and one for length, it worked great as well, it has been the best from all organic mascaras I have tried so far - however there was quite some fall out after a few hours. I had this issue with all my mascaras hat's why I prefer a commercial product like le volume by Chanel. The mono eyeshadow in rose has an amazing packaging, below is a small mirror with an applicator and the consistency is very powdery and smooth. The pigmentation was not high, as you can see on the picture - it is barely visible. Maybe the darker shades have a higher pigmentation and would be more recommendable.

Do you have any experience with organic mascara? Can you recommend certain eyeliner, or are you still using conventional products?

Love, Zoey :)

Review: Haircare by Phyto - Shampoo and Conditioner

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conditioner:

Phytobaume Hydratation

für normales bis trockenes Haar
13 Euro für 150 ml

Inhaltsstoffe:

Angelica Archangelica See Extract, Cetearyl Alcohol, Water, Ricinoleamidopropyltriminium Methosulfate,Cetrimonium Chloride, Dipalmitoylethyl Hydroxyethylmonium Methosulfate, Cetyl Alcohol, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed oil, Decyl Glucoside, Ceteareth-20, Fragrance,Tetrasodium EDTA, Benzophenone-4, Citric Acid, Methylisothiazolinone, Phosphoric Acid

Wirkung:

Shampoo

Phytokeratine Repairing Shampoo

für schwaches, geschädigtes Haar
11 Euro für 200 ml

Inhaltsstoffe:

Viola Tricolor Extract (Wild Pansy Extract), Water/Aqua, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate (Coconut Oil Derivative), Glycerin, Peg-15 Cocopolyamine (Coconut Oil Derivative), Sodium Chloride, Acrylates Copolymer, Glycol Disterate, Polyquaternium-22, Caprylic/ Capric Triglyceride, Hydrolyzed Corn Protein, Hydrolized Soy Protein, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Laureth-4, Polyquaternium-10 (Wood Cellulose Derivative), Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Fragrance/ Parfum, Coco-Glucoside, Glyceryl Oleate, Panthenol, Punica Granatum Seed Extract (Pomegranate Extract), Potassium Sorbate, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride (Gum Guar Extract), Lauryl Pyrrolidone, Sodium Salicylate, Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Honey (Honey Derivative), Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Atelocollagen, Tocopherol, Chitosan (Crustacean Shell Derivative), Sphingolipids, Cyclodextrin, Dextrin (Rice Derivative), Phenoxyethanol, Butylene Glycol, Pentylene Glycol, Benzoic Acid. (Botanical and natural origins.)

Wirkung:
Haar sauber, weich und ziemlich fluffig. Was will man mehr. Das Shampoo hat mich überzeugt.

Fazit:

Liebe Gruesse, Louisa :)

Vielen Dank an die Firma Phyto für die Testmuster.

DIY Hair Treatment - Lemonade for Hair

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Lovelies,
Yesterday I tried a Recipe of Lorraine Massey's she is the curly girl guru ^^ and has invented a care routine and written a very nice book about the curly girl method. I was initially afraid of the lemon acid, because this recipe contains addind a large lemon to your favourite conditioner. I tried it and I loved the results. I can not remember the last time my hair has been this shiny and soft, I am so happy about the results. This DIY hair treatment will be especially great if you are living in hard water regions like I do. The lemon juice will remove the build up from your hair which causes your hair to look dry and makes your hair feel hard. I would however not recommend to use this treatment on a daily basis - I guess once a month would be enough for sure.

You will need:

  • juice of a large lemon preferably an organic one - minus the seeds and like lemon pieces
  • 5 Tblspoons of your favourite Conditioner, (I have been using Alverde Zitrone Aprikose, it is an inexpensive german organic brand)

Instructions:
Clean your hair with the method of your choice. I am always using the CWC Method.  I wash my hair with diluted shampoo, about a hazelnut size of shampoo combined with 2 litres of water. As the last C I used the lemon mixture. Apply from ends to about ear height , leave in for 20 sec. and rinse thoroughly.

 About the curly girl method

The curly girl method has been invented by Lorraine Massey and is great for all types of curly hair. African hair will especially benefit from this method as well as any type of curl. My hair is naturally curly to wavy so the method would work for me as well. I do not use it for some reasons though. First of all i do not like to have conditioner on my roots - it will weight my hair down and make it flat, second - the time my hair needs for drying after I use CO method. It will need to dry about 10 hours - by all the love I have for my hair - I do not have this much time to spare. As mentioned above there are some great websites like naturally curly as mentioned above as well as her book. Give it a try :)

This were my results :

Alles Liebe,

Louisa :)

Favourite Winter Hair Oil - Monoi Fragipani

Liebste blumige Gruesse :)

Liebe Grüße,
Louisa :-)
