Flechtwerk - Pretty Up - My Boho Braids

Boho Braids on long auburn red hair - easy effortless messy hair styles.

Hello Lovelies!

I often think in the morning about spicing up my everyday pony tail. If you are like me than you will mostly be in a hurry and throw your hair back in a simple high pony or easy bun. Lately I have loved to side my braids up. Coachella is nearing and I love the easy hippie, messy festival hair styles. I have textured my hair before with volume spray, aloe vera and argan oil to get a good structure and grip in my lengths. I have firstly applied volume power all over my hair, then put some aloe gel and lately oiled the ends to get nice curls in my ending ponies.
I know some of you prefer the really neat buns and braids but my hair is so stubborn even if I wanted to achieve that, it would never cooperate :D

I am curious how Melanie, Heike, Wuscheline, Andrea, Lenja and Nessa have prettied up their hair do's.

Sadly this will be our last Flechtwerk post together. Over the years we have evolved a little different and it did change a lot since we started. So I do have to say that there will be no Flechtwerk Cooperations anymore. I am sure there will be further collabs with some girls, as the long hair blogging scene is quite small :) I have a very busy and stressful schedule, I will have to see how much I can cooperate in the future.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and I am wishing you a blessed week.

I have dozens of articles on my mind, just so little time. A few Khadi hair care reviews will be coming up for sure. I have been loving the Amla oil again :) I am moving this month so this is a very packed month for me and between looking through pinterest for decor inspo, painting walls and working long hair is just a nice thing in between :)

Do you have simple easy ideas to spice up everyday hairstyles?

Spring is in the Hair

I am so glad that spring is around the corner. I love to sit in the sun and soak up some sunrays.

Boho Fishtail Braid and Flowers.

I have done a fishtail braid and adorned it with flowers - I just love fishtail braids! They have a boho vibe that I absolutely adore.

Favourite activities during spring:

A Bucket List

What are your plans for spring? My theme should be '' Do more of what makes you happy '' :) It is easy to get caught up in work, stress, life and obligations. Doug you have a bucket list? I would love to hear what you are up to!

Spending some time in nature.

I am curious how Spring is at my girls Melanie, Heike, Wuscheline, Andrea, Lenja and Nessa. <3

Flechtwerk - Hair Fails

Hello Lovelies!

Today's topic is about the daily hair fails that happen all the time.
I think hair fails can be pretty funny, most of the time you think oh this will just look great and once you are done : nope. That ain't pretty.

My common fail fails include:

  • Too much oil from a prewash treatment that has not rinsed out too well. Mostly it is due to a too rich conditioner. For my future self: Heavy hair treatment: Use a shampoo with strong cleaning properties and steer away from too heavy conditioners.
  • Puffy, fluffy, too dry hair. Happens all the time. Then it is time for a good leave in like the Sheabutter cream or Aloe Gel.
  • Unclean braiding... Usually I am pretty ok with braiding nowadays. I can manage 5 strands well and it does not take too long usually. BUT you know these small accent braids? They usually go wrong with me, I can't make a good small parting to save my live. Usually I notice this after I have braided them too the end..

My usual hair fail is pretty funny I have to say. It is a combination of too dry fluffy hair and then too much oil. How does this happen? Hair is either oily or dry? No not with me. My hair is first too dry, too puffy because I combed out my curls, and then I over do it with the leave in and oil and yep there you go :

Oily puffy & crunchy and dry hair. Feeling like Hagrid from harry Potter quite a lot sometime. Maybe we are related. I always felt a connection to Hagrid anyways.

If you are a curly girl you have some trouble with humidity as well.

Flechtwerk: Ice and Snow

Little sparkling hair stick!

Pearl and Snowflake Earrings. Have been a favourite this whole winter.
I think snowflakes have such delicacy to them - very lovely and simple.

Simple Cinnamon Bun with Snow Queen Shelot.
Hello Lovelies,
Todays topic is Hair in Snow and Ice! Since I have not seen one single snowflake this winter it was really hard for me! But I remembered that I had a Snow-Queen Shelot which is a hair accessory that can hold a cinnamon bun and I decided that picture with this beauty will do justice to our topic :D
It is made by Ravenslair - she is very talented and a great artist. Most of her pieces are inspired by fantasy, fairytales and magic. Very well made and she does custom orders as well. Go have a look at her Etsy-Shop, she is currently on vacation though.

As for winter hair care, I have been following the Liquid/Oil/Cream Method lately. I am sure most of you have heard about it - it is a way to seal moisture and oil in your hair. First you apply your favourite liquid - can be aloe vera water or a hydrosole, then your favourite oil and then a light hair cream. Stay tuned for an entire blogpost on the topic :) I wish we had more snow. I remember my days in Canada when the temperature dropped below -20 and even breathing was hard and pinched like a thousand little icicles. Do you like the colder seasons? I am actually excited for spring and summer, when the days get longer and are lighter.

News:
We have an addition to our Flechtwerk Group! It is the lovely and beautiful Andrea from www.echtandrea.de I am super happy that she joined us! We met sometime ago and I am amazed how much her hair has grown. She has a beautiful blog and a very lovely instagrampage as well.

Meet and Greet Andrea from www.echtandrea.de

I am curious about Melanies idea, Heike's, Wuscheline's, Lenja's and also Nessa's Ice and Snow Hair!

Flechtwerk: Review and Preview 2015 - 2016

Hello Lovelies!

Looking back on the last year, so many things have happened in my life and hair just became a random aspect that was there but nothing I focused on. On the contrary, I cut back from 115 cm to 92 cm! Thigh length back to hip / waist length. I do like my new look, it is easier to manage but my up-do's became smaller and well my all time favourite braid is not great anymore because of the amount of layers that i got.

This is a picture during summer before the new cut:

Beyond classic length, super long hair during summer.

Now this is my current length:

Layered new Hair Cut

I do have to admit that i enjoy my shorter tresses a lot. I think the length I was most happy with was about  1m. I still have 8 cm to go as a goal for 2016. About the layers I am not sure.. I love them when my hair is down or in a half up, but whenever I am trying an up-do they become  a nuisance..

This is how my hair looks now when it is all up:
Messy Up Do ficcare Primavera Red

Goals I want to reach in 2016:
  • More length! 1 meter is my holy-grail hair length I think :o)
  • Add more moisture with my Aloe-Vera treatments.
  • Make more hair products! I am excited to do my first solid shampoo bars :)
  • Add content on a regular basis.
  • Learn more hairstyles - e.g. french rope braiding and french fishtail braiding. Maybe start a Youtube Channel?
I am content with my natural hair colour at the moment. They are auburn and have some copper lights added by my rinsable goldenred toner that I use (Accent, Feuermohn).

I am excited to read the girls hair posts! Have a look at Heike at Haselnussblond , Wuscheline , Lenja our forrest fairy , Nessa from Haartraum and our Mermaid at Nixenhaar.

Flechtwerk : Why do you have long hair?

Hello Lovelies!
Due to a high work load, I could not participate in the last blogging cooperation posts from our Flechtwerk Team! Meanwhile the girls Wuscheline, Nessa , Heike, Lenja and Bobby decided to share an open round and I will just contribute belated now. This months topic is quiet personal : The reason why I have long hair :)  It is a long story but here we go. First I want to show you some pictures of last month while I was at the ocean visiting my family and some from last autumn. My hair is beyond classic length at the moment and thank God no hair loss, breakage or any kind of trouble.

Long red hair in the woods - Autumn 2014

Spending time with Ariel - the little mermaid :D

So well, I always loved the beauty of the woman of the past. I remember watching brave heart when I was small and then seeing Sophie Marceau's hair. Or Padme and her braids during the star-wars movie scenes of the planet tatooine. Also I do love Ariel the little mermaid and the woman from spartacus from the ancient greek mythology. I was never too big on current fashion trends - I think the girls and woman now look all the same, same hair styles, cuts, colours and I like to look different. Why be like everyone else? Very long red hair like mine does stand out, wherever you go you will receive at least 1-3 compliments on your hair length, it is just an unusual sight.

Then my hair type - my hair is very thick, curly and coarse - very difficult to manage if it is held at a normal length like say shoulder length. It gets super frizzy and does not lie flat but rather it is a huge volume halo. Not too flattering :D The longer my hair gets, the more gets it weighted down by the length and the volume is more condensed. It is easier to manage for me.

Life depends on your positive outlook - keep smiling the rest will fall into place :)

Now comes the very personal part. I know a lot of woman did experience the same and we should all support each other and stand up for these things. Last but not least, it is a long time ago now, but I used to be in a very bad destructive abusive relationship when I was younger. My partner then always wanted me to cut my hair short. He liked short hairstyles I but I have always loved to have long hair. One time then I gave in and I did chop it off my hair from hip to chin length, I started crying at the hair dresser. A year later or so I was able to break up and since then I let my hair grow back as long as I wanted to. Long hair for me see - is also a sign of freedom and happiness and a way to hold up against oppression :)

April 2015 beyond classic length.

Now here comes the blog party :)

Tutorial French Pinless Bun

Hello Lovelies,

Today's Flechtwerk post is about a very secure sturdy hair do- the french or dutch pinless bun. Basically is holds on it's own by being wrapped around a hairstick without any bobby pins needed! It is easy to do but will require a lot of hair length if your hair is very thick like mine. But 'nuff said here come the instructions! I am in my work-out clothes and just came back from running my miles :o)

How to:

  1. Start by braiding your hair to a dutch or french braid.
  2. Insert the heuristic or fork vertically
  3. Wrap your hair around the base and behind the hair stick
  4. Tuck the ends under so that they hold secure. - Voila that is it!
Very easy and sturdy in my opinion. If you like big buns it is great this bun turns out to be very huge! I am excited what the girls did with this months topic have a look at Heike,  Nessa,  Wuscheline Bobby  and  Lenja !

Do you like braided up-do's? Which one is your favourite? I have to say I prefer the regular braided but because I do like my buns to be more at the nape of my neck.

Flechtwerk: Throwback Thursday

Hello Lovelies!

Today's topic is Throwback Thursday! Oh so important and famous since Instagram and the Facebook age! A lot of people are very surprised that my hair was not always so very long. In fact in the past my hair was mostly a little past my shoulders. The shortest my hair has ever been was until my ears. I am glad I do not have photo proof of that!
As a little kid my hair cut was a very short bob with a full fringe. Until primary school my hair was very thick, silky and golden blonde and pin straight! It started to become curly when I was in high school. During high (16 yrs) school I had my hair mostly layered and a little past my shoulders. My natural colour was always a coppery brown tone as seen above in the picture! The blond streaks are not natural but the start of my blonde period ^^ Like every other girl that time I would get blonde highlights once a month until my hair was all bleached blonde, super dry and damaged. But we learn these things just after we passed the high school period. When I look at the picture I do miss my big curly hair a lot! With the length I have now and no layeres my hair never curls as much now sadly..

From the blonde period (18 yrs) I only have very few and very bad quality pictures... But I think you get the picture of me with my strawy bleached hair! I am so glad I learned so much about hair care now! But even with the very bad quality pics I can tell how much the light blonde colour washed me out for sure!

I am excited so check the girls blogspost, Heike, Nixenhaar, Wuscheline, Lenja and Nessa  !
Our next topic will be the french winless hair do and online at the 15th of February!

I would love to hear about your hair crimes! What did you do in the past? ^^

BTW - did read about my hair journey yet? Click here for a full overview!

Personal Update!

I am very happy to start blogging from today on regularly! The last months have been very hard on me, we had a loss in the family - my uncle passed away. It was very unexpectedly and I was sad for a long time because I did not have time to say goodbye to him. A personal loss will always be very hard and I needed to take my time in order to deal with it the right way. Hair and hair care lost their importance in the process of course. But I am back with many different topics, reviews and recipes for you now! I am so excited to share my knowledge!
New Topics will include:
- a more holistic approach! If you follow me on Pinterest you might have seen that I started to  researching and practicing astrology, crystal healing and yoga!
- More news on herbal indian haircare!
- Finally my favourite holy grail Coconut-Aloe recipe!
-Updated Henna Recipes for different hair colours.

Are you already in the Christmas Mood? I am not christian but very very happy to feel the festive mood and love how the city is lit up with all the lights during Christmas Markets! I wish you all happy holidays regardless of what beliefs and religion you belong to!

Don't forget to :
  • drink hot chocolate with your love/loved ones,
  • watch a movie and
  • cuddle under a blanket
  • cook some traditional dishes just for yourself or your family
  • and remember to love yourself
  • and to take care of yourself -
  • you are a wonderful special person and worth to pamper yourself!

Flechtwerk - Round Braids

Hello Lovelies!
I hope you are all enjoying autumn and the turning of the leaves :) I love autumn, it is my favourite season! Drinking pumpkin spice latte, chai tea, staying home and starting to wear big sweaters and cozy scarfs is just lovely! Today's little hairstyle idea is very simple - a crown braid based on the round 4 strand braid. I gathered my hair to one side, braided it like Lilith is showing us in her very clear and simple video  and pinned the finished braid up to my crown with small bobby pins. By the way, if your like the autumn colours as clothing I have a Pinterest Board with lots of colours that I love to wear. Have a look :) !

How to

  • Divide your hair into 4 equal parts
  • Nr your hair beginning on your ear into 1, 2, 3, 4
  • Starting at the right side: bring strand no. 1 under 2 and 3 and twist it forward so that is lies between 2 und 3
  • take strand no. 4 and bring it behind 2 and 3, twist it once around 2
  • Repeat the steps :)

Have a look on how the other girls are interpreting their round braids,Wuscheline Nessa, Heike, Bobby , und Lenja. I am super excited to see Nessa's Idea :D The is truly the braiding queen! Our next topic will be up on the 15th October and about our favourite hair jewellery. Difficult to chose I think!

With Pumpkin Love for you and This Wonderful Autumn Season!

Flechtwerk: Heatless Curls with Flexi Rods

Heatless Curls with Flexi Rods- Hair Friendly!

Hello Lovelies!
Another post that is coming though you from our blogging cooperation Flechtwerk! Topic this week is structural change! I hope everyone is doing great! I have been busy preparing some tutorials for you in the past few weeks and now I have prepared a heatless curls tutorial that I wanted to do for a long time. I do have natural curls but with my hair now as long as over a meter and having no layers - they pretty much turn into waves or only last if I use a lot of product. Because we all have and want super long healthy hair - you ain't gonna use heat on your tresses. It is basically the worst thing you could do to your hair - grill it on a curling iron with 200 degrees? No need - I have a fabulous tutorial that involves minimal time and money and you can basically redo the curls everyday if you feel like it. And I repeat myself - don't ever use heat on your hair. Never ever. If you want long hair. If you are using heat - stop it. Now. :D

Heatless Curls Tutorial - DIY

How to Heatless Curls

You will need:

  • dry hair, tangle free
  • 1-2 packs of Flexi Rods
  • water in a bowl or spray bottle
  • coconut oil
  • If you need your curls for a special occasion - you might want to use lots of hair spray to keep them springy.
  1. Now it is absolutely crucial that you start with dry hair! If your hair is damp or wet the curls will not last. Really. Learn from my mistakes ^^ use some coconut oil on your hair to kill any frizz.
  2. Separate a small strand and dampen it with a tiny amount of water. Tiny. Tiny. Tinyyy. Now start rolling your hair up beginning at the ends. Roll it up straight just as shown in my picture above. Start at your crown and work your way down to the ends of your hair.
  3. Once rolled up slightly bend the flexi rod - don't cross them or it will be very uncomfortable if you lay down - in case you are doing this overnight.
  4. Wait for at least 3 hours - you can go to sleep if you want. In the pictures I waited 4 hours I think.
  5. If needed spray with tons of hairspray.
Oh and just an advice - try not doing that when your husband or boyfriend is home You do look hilarious and a bit like Peggy Bundy when your rods are all in - it will be a very sure romance killer.

Long red curly hair ! My favourite look!

Tadaaa you are good to go :o)

Have a look at the girls versions,
Nessa

What is your favourite Method of curling your hair?
