London, Barcelona and a lot of Love!

Bilder Collage:
1. Islington
2. Buckingham Palace
3. Austern - must love Oysters!
4. Union Jack cab
5. Tea at the Ritz
6. Cute Thrift Stores and Second Hand Book Stores
7. Beatles Musical
8. London Bridge
9. Waiting for the Hogwarts Express :)
10. Nosy squirells at Hyde Parc

Allerliebste, dankbare Gruesse, Louisa <3

Hello Lovlies!

A short update from me, I have been super busy the last weeks. I was in London for an imaging course for my phD. The course was held in Queen Square, UCL. It was lovely and very interesting as well as demanding. I spend my afternoon with a close friend who is doing a part of her clinical elective in gastroenterology and is currently living in London. We did some sightseeing and I absolutely fell in love with London! It was my first time, I love the laid back relaxed atmosphere and the polite and happy people. Being addressed as love, honey is a wonderful way to start your day :D We were buying coffee at a coffee shop and the owner was asking where we were from , then he declared we must have been from heaven and got us free beverages as a gift. He was very nice and this was London for me - a very happy place. You could almost believe bumping into Harry there :) I stayed near King's Cross in a hostel that was at it's best super crowded and small but fine for a budget traveller.

In the meantime I got a lot of lovely comments from you and two blog awards, I will answer every single one and I am very happy for your support! I just realised that i exceeded the 100 readers, I will do a blog gifting thing soon!

I am a little behind my Partnerblogs Posts, in the meantime you can check out Nessa's and Heike's Post - our topic was signature hairstyle. By the way, Heike has a lot of updates on hair loss posts, if you are suffering from hair loss as well , it is worth checking them out.
Some more hair care and henna posts are planned as well.

And the good news : I will be disappearing to Barcelona for a week tomorrow, I need some time to rest and soak in the sun :) I will be visiting friends and eating a lot of sea food , I miss my city. I have been studying in Barcelona last year at the UB. It is a wonderful place , if you have the chance to visit you should definitely give it a try.

Lots of love,
Louisa :)

Tutorial - How to do Lace Braids

Heute also die hier versprochene

 Anleitung:

Alles Liebe, Louisa :)

Hello Lovelies,

Here is the tutorial I promised you in the Game of Thrones Post.
A lacebraid is a very good idea to spice up a normal bun, you can style it as well as a half-up or
even pull everything behind if you want to have big braid with accents.

Instructions:

1. Only add hair from above your braid
2. comb your hair before you add it
3. add tiny bits of hair and not big chunks! We want to keep it delicate and feminine

I gathered some ideas how you can style your braids as you can see below. And by the way, here is my inspirational picture I found on Pinterest. She looks absolutely lovely! Two sided braids are great for those of you with a rounder face shape , since they tend to prolong your face a little - both side braids don't go well with my face shape e.g. I prefer to wear them in a bigger braid. Isn't she a beauty! Love the medieval vibe. We start our braids differently though. For her look a simple side french braid would also do I guess.

Do you like lace braids? What is your favourite way to wear them? I love to wear them in a bigger braid like shown on the right side .

Love, Louisa :)

Sunny Sunday's Favourites : Instagramming My Week in Pictures

Hello Lovelies!

It was a hard week for me, I hope you all had a great time and are enjoying the weather. I went running quite a few times, I absolutely miss my bf (over a month now since he was here) , I am enjoying my red handbag (was a gift from my mum for my bday) - the colour goes well with the red hair ^^ , I was so happy to collect lilac flowers ! For some down parts in my work life - John Steinbeck's Quote on being perfect! The little doc is a stress ball btw :) And I finished a new painting, I don't know if I told you already that I paint. I rearranged it on my picture wall.

Love, Louisa.

Diagonal French Braided Bun

Hello Lovelies,

I love a simple french braid and recently saw a very nice side braid pinned into a bun.
It is super easy to recreate and a very elegant look.
On the right side you see the inspirational picture and my version and the left.

Instructions:

  1. Comb your hair to the right side, start a french braid right above your ear.
  2. Continue to braid until you reach your left ear and tie with an elastic
  3. Simply wrap your braid into a bun shape and hold with bobby pins.

Love, Louisa :)

----------------------------------------------------------------

Sunny Sunday's Favourites - Game of Thrones Hair Do's

Hello Lovelies!

I hope you all had a great and successful week! I have been very busy with my research work and shopping a dress for my cousins's wedding for the end of May. I am very excited since I will see my family then, most of my family is living abroad. I have been watching the new season of Game of Thrones and I love their hair- do's so much. All the intricate and fine braiding can be incorporated in daily hair do's as well. Almost 90 % of all braids are based on dutch lace braids and rope braids. I have a tutorial for rope braids for you here and I am working on a new tutorial for a one sided dutch lace braid currently. It will be online mid of next week I guess. If you are already familiar with these techniques - you will be able to recreate almost all hairstyles. Some also sport a 5 strand braid. You can do 3x3 braids if you are not yet familiar with a 5-strand braid.

Below there is a collage of my favourite GOT Hair ideas.

Now - if you are trying to recreate any of these hair do's don't be frustrated if you do not have enough hair - all actresses are wearing wigs of course. Even I have trouble to recreate Daenery's Multibraids and I have a lot of hair available :D

Do you like GOT medieval inspired hair idea's? I absolutely love them!

Liebste Gruesse,
Louisa :)

Tutorial : How to Trimm your Own Hair

*english version below*

Gute Scheren bekommt man schon ab 30 Euro aufwärts.

Liebste Gruesse,
Louisa.

Hello Lovelies,

Cutting your own hair is easier than you would think. I have been cutting my hair for over three years now, using the method below that you can see in my tutorial. The original idea was invented by Feye. You will save a lot of money and nerves if you decide to take matters in your own hands. I have had a very frustrating experience at a hair dresser once, instead of the desired 5 cm, she cut 20 cm of my formerly waist long hair. I went out crying with 30 euros less and shoulder long layered hair. This was the last time I ever went to a hair dresser. I asked her why she did that and her response was, your hair was boring and now you can do so many things with it! -.-'

Instructions:

Start with combed hair, do your parting where you wear it the most.
1. Tie your hair back in your neck with an elastic.
2. Slowly and carefully move the elastic down your back
3. Move it down until you reach the end of your ponytail
4. Grab your ponytail from the back and bring it to the front. Be extremely careful not to move the position of the ponytail holder!
5. Grab your ends between index and middle finger
6. start cutting your hair in a straight line, be careful not to cut too much in the beginning, you can always cut more in case the ends or not straightly cut.

Right now I use the Crea Clip to cut my hair. Before I had the Crea Clip I have been cutting my hair the describes way for over a year, maintaing healthy ends is crucial if you want to grow your hair really long. I always trimm my hair at the first of every month. This time a trimmed a bit more, about 3 cm. Normally I would trimm 1 cm. I will have to trimm a bit more - my hair is a little damaged because of my tangle teezer nightmare..

How were your experiences with the hairdresser? Do you cut your own hair or visit a salon regularly?

Love , Louisa :)

Review - Aubrey Organics GPB

INCI: Aqua, cetyl alcohol (coconut fatty alcohol), alcohol denat. (38b, lavender*), aloe barbadensis (aloe) leaf juice*, triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil, milk protein, glycerin, citrus paradisi (grapefruit) peel oil*, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil*, brassica campestris/aleurites fordi oil copolymer, citrus grandis (grapefruit) seed extract, cananga odorata (ylang) flower oil*, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil*, glycine soja (soybean) oil, glycoprotein, salvia officinalis (sage) oil*, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) water, equisetum hyemale (horsetail) extract, tussilago farfara (coltsfoot) leaf extract, urtica dioica (nettle) extract, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), daucus carota sativa (carrot) root extract, beta-carotene.
* Aus kontrolliert biologischem Anbau
** Bestandteil natürlicher ätherischer Öle
Vegetarisch

INCI: Aqua, aloe barbadensis (aloe) leaf juice*, decyl glucoside, sodium cocoyl hydrolyzed soy protein, glucose, xanthan gum, oryza sativa (rice) extract*, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil*, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil*, milk protein, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter)*, citric acid, oenothera biennis (evening primrose) oil*, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil*, glycerin, citrus grandis (grapefruit) extract, lactoperoxidase, glucose oxidase, alcohol denat. (38b, lavender*), tocopheryl acetate, hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) water, ascorbic acid, glycine soja (soybean) oil, daucus carota sativa (carrot) root extract, beta-carotene.
* Aus kontrolliert biologischem Anbau
Vegetarisch

Hello Lovelies!

I am sorry for the belated translation, I have been extremely busy with university and work. As you might still know from my review about the hair serum ilikegreen, I am a big fan of Aubrey Organics products. They have intense and very concentrated formula and will last a very long time. I have been using the GBP Series, which is a moisturising protein rich  care series. I have been using the products for two months and I am very happy with the results. They are labeled for normal hair types and I agree, they will tend to the needs of most hair types. The shampoo is a gentle cleaner, it works on coco-glucosids which are very mild. Both products contain aloe vera, which my hair absolutely loves. I tested the YlangYlang and Lavender Version, it also comes in peppermint and Rosemary as well as the original smell.

Shampoo :

INCI: Aqua, aloe barbadensis (aloe) leaf juice*, decyl glucoside, sodium cocoyl hydrolyzed soy protein, glucose, xanthan gum, oryza sativa (rice) extract*, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil*, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil*, milk protein, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter)*, citric acid, oenothera biennis (evening primrose) oil*, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil*, glycerin, citrus grandis (grapefruit) extract, lactoperoxidase, glucose oxidase, alcohol denat. (38b, lavender*), tocopheryl acetate, hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) water, ascorbic acid, glycine soja (soybean) oil, daucus carota sativa (carrot) root extract, beta-carotene.

and here the formula of the

Conditioner:

INCI: Aqua, cetyl alcohol (coconut fatty alcohol), alcohol denat. (38b, lavender*), aloe barbadensis (aloe) leaf juice*, triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil, milk protein, glycerin, citrus paradisi (grapefruit) peel oil*, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil*, brassica campestris/aleurites fordi oil copolymer, citrus grandis (grapefruit) seed extract, cananga odorata (ylang) flower oil*, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil*, glycine soja (soybean) oil, glycoprotein, salvia officinalis (sage) oil*, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) water, equisetum hyemale (horsetail) extract, tussilago farfara (coltsfoot) leaf extract, urtica dioica (nettle) extract, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), daucus carota sativa (carrot) root extract, beta-carotene.

How to apply:

You will want to dilute the shampoo, about 500 ml of water mixed with a few drops of shampoo are fine, just shake the mix and leave it on your hair for about 2 minutes. It will not foam extremely, don't worry that is normal you hair will still get clean. You can also dilute the conditioner or use my favourite method : I use it as a pre-wash hair treatment. Apply on dry hair and let it sit for about 20 minutes, then wash your hair as you would usually. My hair got hydrated down to the ends and became very soft and shiny. I am happy that the fragrance also stays in my hair after it is dry!

I have rated the product with a

10 out of 10 ! (which actually never happened before here)

reflecting the good ingredients, the lovely fragrance and the intense hydrating effect.

Do you like the AO hair care? Let me know what products you have used and if you were happy with the results.

Love, Louisa :)

Sunny Sunday Favourite's: You are beautiful.

Alles Liebe, Louisa.

Hello Lovelies.

On sundays the topic of this blog may vary a little to not really hair related content. Today as well. I recentlz saw Dove´s new commercial regarding to self esteem and self value. It is a lovely and also sad reminder that we mostly are our strongest and harshest critic. I am trying not to be so hard on myself and to appreciate the things I have accomplished but it is still very difficult for me. You should not just see your love handles and fleckles and maybe wrinkles and dark circles but just appreciate your inner and outer beauty. I e.g. have really prominent ears, I don´t mind, I actually love them. It is just difficult if other people comment on them - once an ex bf commented on them and told me I can have surgery he will pay the cost.No thank you very much. We are no longer a couple.
I hope you enjoy watching the video, additional information is to be found here.  The video will show you the results and portraits woman got while they described themselves vs. how a stranger saw and described them. I wish you all a blessed weekend and a wonderful week with a little more self - confidence than before :)

Instagramming - my week in pictures

Hello Lovelies,

I hope you all had a nice week! My week was full of spring time activities, my growing flower project is going well ! I discovered a Victoria's Secret nailpolish in a pretty pink-coral tone. I am happy to do more sports like Zumba, running and Fatburner Cadio work - outs. And I saw the doe while I was running it was not at all shy!

Primavera Tortoise in a simple braided Bun

Hello Lovelies,

Today again a everyday go-to bun, this time not a rose-bun but a simple braided bun with a Ficcare. The colour is Tortoise it is a very pretty dark-brown. If you have thick hair like I do, you may want to insert the clip right into the ponytail holder, so the weight  will not tear at your roots and result in the so feared bun-baldness :D . I am happy about the amount of natural hair colour that is showing through everywhere. I am now at a point where you do not really see the transition of henna and natural hair colour. A wise hint for everyone - henna is extremely permanent as you can see. The last henna treatment was over a year ago.

Was sind eure Standardfrisuren?

Liebste Gruesse,
Louisa.

The Tangle Teezer - Nightmare

Hello Lovelies,

I have already told you in my April Length shot, that I noticed more split ends. I stopped using the tangle teaser - I did not change anything else in my hair routine and I am positive that the splitting will stop soon. If you are interested in how and why you should use a gentle hair tool - stay with me, we will bring some light into the mess of tools, brushes and combs.

Tangle Teaser, wood comb and horn comb

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

There are several different types of combs that you can use - what you are comfortable with will depend a lot on your hair type as well. I do recommend that you always check for rough seems and sharp edges whatever you are using. I am no fan of plastic brushes or boar bristle brushes (the worst split ends I have ever had in my life- went right away in the trash bin). If you do not use the right tool your hair will snatch and break and be damaged and thus cause split ends. I do not recommend using normal plastic brushes or boar bristle brushes - they will eventually damage your hair, cause split ends, breaking and tapered hair. We can do without that :)

Horn Combs

I am a big fan of horn combs, you can se the slightly curved dark brown horn comb in the middle of the picture. I have gotten mine from LeBaoLong. I highly recommend this shop, the combs are amazing - thick beautiful smooth and carved of one piece of horn, the curve of the material will give the comb a slight curve as well. Horncombs can be used as well on wet or damp hair. The online shop is found here. They have a great customer service and ship super fast - I have brought all my combs there. You can get a high quality horn comb for around 20 Euros - which is a great price in my opinion. If you ask via mail, they can also ship internationally. Combing with a horn comb is very smooth and since you hair is build from horn too (in a way) you don't have a lot of friction and no electrified hair or fly aways. Horncombs are my favourite. I got a model with wide teeth, since my hair is very thick and curly to wavy. If you have finer hair, you may want to get a more delicate comb. They do have a negative side - if you will drop them on a stone floor or any hard floor and tiles they will break. Please be careful where you are using it and do not put your comb in a high shelf without a soft pouch. They will last you forever if you do not drop them.

Wood Combs

Wood combs are a great alternative for the vegan friendly girls. They are if treated right equally smooth, very sustainable and robust and also light. You can not use them on damp hair though or leave them in a moist environment - the wood will soak the humidity up and become corse and ill shaped. I have a sandelwood comb which was a gift from one of the LHN girls (thank you so much Zuendhuetchen!!) and it is a perfect pocket size and will not cause fly aways as well. I feel combing with a horn comb is easier than using a wood comb, but both will glide easily through knots if you are caeful. Horn combs are available in different wood types, lengths and shapes, you will find them as well on LeBaoLong. The prices are very reasonable, you can get a good comb for around 10 Euros.

Finally - the Tangle Teezer

I know a lot of you are using the Tangle Teezer - it is quick, low maintenance and will get your hair knot free in seconds. What i am writing know will not necessarily concern you - it was just my experience. I have been using the tangle teaser for a few months and I do have more split ends now. The seems are not really smooth and while combing the tangle teaser does make a combing noise ratttsh. I think partly I have this problem because my hair is very thick and not straight. I can imagine that if your hair is fine and straight, the brush will not have a lot of resistance and glide through and thus may not cause any damage. I liked how quick it was, but I will put it away now and stick to my horn and wood comb for now.

How is your experience with combs and the Tangle Teezer? Did you notice split ends while you were using the wrong tools?

The Good the Bad and the Ugly

Alles Liebe, Louisa.
